| Dear Mr. Boisine:
I'm sure you, as with most of us, prefer a free society over an
oppressive regime. But freedome can only prosper if it is coupled with
peace. And with peace, we must also rid the society of hatred.
As long as one person or group of people is oppressed, we do not live
in a truly free society. People can be oppressed because of race,
creed, or personal belief. You, as an oppressor, do so because of
colour.
Hate has a way of multiplying quickly. For example, the Ku Klux Klan spawned hatred of whites from many African Americans.
But, rather than to react to hatred with your own feelings of hatred,
one must counteract those feelings with a message of acceptance. Hate
cannot thrive when it cannot spread.
But, hate cannot grow in a person without a stimulus to cause it. In
other words, no one is born an oppressor. One must have the thoughts
that cause them to oppress at some point in their life.
Therefore, I earnestly urge you, if not for your own freedom, for the
freedom of your children and the betterment of society as a whole, that
you suppress your feelings of hatred, or at least don't express them
outwardly.
I hope this letter helps you in some way. I also hope that my advice will help you feel better about yourself as a person.
-Anonymous.
